Located on a quiet street on a large, private lot, with great views to nearby parkland, the previously existing 3 bedroom, 2 bath brick rambler seemed to have everything going for it. Except size. While sufficient at one time, the 1200 SF rambler was a tight fit for this client's family.
Hemmed in by County side setbacks, our response was to go up as well as out. By removing the roof, adding a second level, and expanding out towards the rear of the lot, 3 generously-sized bedrooms and 2 full baths were provided on the second floor. On the first floor, a new kitchen, full bath, oper suite, and an office/bedroom were incorporated into the design, along with a new family room, increasing the home's area to 3500 SF - not including a 1200 SF full basement. Taking advantage of the site's vistas, the family room's expansive, curving window-wall provides a direct visual and physical link to the exterior and especially to the family-friendly wraparound deck beyond.
